Ben Laden’s brother in law Djamal Khalifa was shot dead in the South West of Madagascar on Wednesday, report the press.
About 20 or 30 armed men broke into the motel bedroom where he stayed and shot him to death, then robbed his personal belongings including a laptop, official sources say.
Djamal was not a permanent resident in Madagascar. He worked in the mining business. Local press situated the attack between the towns of Sakaraha and Ihosy, a region which is particularly rich in precious stones.
Local authorities believe that the attack was perpetrated by the « dahalo » – notorious gangsters – also reputated for zebu-stealing, and who are particularly numerous and actives in that part of the country.
Djamal’s brother, Malek Khalifa thinks the murder is not politically motivated, speaking to Al Arabyia, a media in Dubayy. He said although Djamal was related to Oussama Ben Laden, he had never had to do with Al Qaeda nor been involved in politics.
A Mauritian newspaper reported that Djamal was alledged to have financially supported Abu Sayyaf, an islamist group in the Philippines.
